His papacy will be remembered for its compassion, its moral clarity, and a renewed belief that we are all God’s children." Rep. Garcia highlighted the unique contributions of Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope, noting his ability to challenge wealth and power.

Later, Rep. Garcia addressed a recent shooting involving law enforcement personnel, stating, "I’m keeping Deputy Constable Sheila Jones and all those affected by today’s shooting in my prayers." She acknowledged the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers in her community.

Sylvia Garcia's professional and educational background includes a BA from Texas Woman's University and a JD from Texas Southern University. She has been a member of Congress since 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate. Garcia, born in 1950 in San Diego, Texas, now resides in Houston.
