Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, serving Texas' 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has expressed concerns through recent tweets about the handling of Social Security by prominent figures and federal plans. Fletcher replaced John Culberson in 2019 and has since been active in addressing issues related to Social Security Administration (SSA) operations and workforce.

On April 15, 2025, Fletcher highlighted remarks by Elon Musk, a well-known entrepreneur, on a podcast, stating "They appear to have little regard for Social Security. In fact, Elon Musk said it on a well-known podcast: he thinks the system that lifted more than 22 million Americans out of poverty in 2023 is a 'ponzi scheme.'"

Fletcher also criticized the actions of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk regarding the Social Security Administration, stating "Yet President Trump and Elon Musk have created chaos at the SSA, planning cuts and obtaining sensitive data about Americans. The SSA plans to cut more than 7,000 employees—14% of its workforce—to comply with an EO from President Trump to reduce the federal workforce."

Lastly, Fletcher addressed the potential closure of federal facilities, mentioning the impact on the SSA offices in Texas. She stated on April 15, 2025, "Texas has 68 SSA field offices that employ more than 3,300 people who help ensure Texans receive their benefits. Elon Musk published a list of 800 federal real estate leases that he intends to close, including 47 SSA offices throughout the country."

Fletcher was born in Houston, Texas in 1975. She graduated from Kenyon College in 1997 and obtained a JD from the College of William and Mary in 2006. She currently resides in Houston.
