Sylvia Garcia, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, expressed concerns over multiple issues affecting Texas through her posts on social media. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950, Garcia has been serving in Congress since 2019 and was previously a Texas State Senator. Her educational background includes degrees from Texas Woman's University and Texas Southern University, and she currently resides in Houston.

On April 10, 2025, Garcia highlighted the potential impacts of a new Texas bill which, she argues, could block five million women from voting due to discrepancies between their married names and birth certificates. She noted that Texans might face $1.6 billion in new costs for voting registration, given that 45% of them lack passports.

In a separate post on the same day, Garcia discussed the implications of the SAVE Act, which she criticized for requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration, excluding driver's licenses or state-issued IDs. She pointed out the impracticality of this requirement, especially for seniors and those who do not carry birth certificates or passports regularly.

Later that day, Garcia addressed a decision by the Supreme Court regarding the deportation of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia. In her statement, she emphasized the need for the Trump administration to act in accordance with the ruling that mandates the facilitation of his return, asserting that "justice demands actions, not delays."

Garcia continues to be an active voice on issues of immigration and voting rights, drawing on her extensive experience in legislation and public service.
