The Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, Jr gave his only speech in Houston at this church.
Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), is the democratic Chief Deputy Whip for the U.S. House of Representatives, serving her fourteenth term representing the 18th Congressional District of Texas. She is a senior member of the House Committees on the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget Committee, and Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee along with the community will host The Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington program at the Historic St John Missionary Baptist Church located at 2702 Emancipation Ave, Houston, TX 77004.
The Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, Jr gave his only speech in Houston at this church, and we will honor the March in the pulpit using the same words he used as we commemorate this historic occasion.
“Houston has a number of historic civil rights leaders, some had the chance to be with Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr such as the Reverend William A. Lawson, the Reverend F.N Williams, Jr and several others. This is a community program with the purpose to invoke the words of his message and reflecting on Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, Jr’s leadership on unity and harmony working together uplifting equality and equity.”
