WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announces $545,000 to the Houston-based Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, Inc. for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance.
“I am proud to announce the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s federal grant to Houston’s Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, Inc. (AAMA) in my district,” said Congresswoman Garcia.
“For more than 50 years, AAMA has helped Latinos achieve their potential. They encourage our district’s youth to complete high school and attend college, teach English language classes to adult immigrants, and guide them towards citizenship. They also help both youth and adults break the cycle of addiction and make positive choices that improve the quality of their lives. Thank you AAMA, for all that you do,” commented Congresswoman Garcia.
With this funding, AAMA will be able to enhance and expand comprehensive addiction treatment, early intervention, and recovery support services for adolescents and transitional aged youth with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders.
