Washington DC - Congressman Hunt voted in favor of H.R. 2494 - The Protect Our Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2023.

This bill makes the country safer by ensuring that aliens who assault law enforcement officers are removable from the United States. The POLICE Act accomplishes this by creating an explicit ground of removability for aliens who have been convicted of, admit to, or admit to committing acts that constitute the essential elements of, any offense involving the assault of a law enforcement officer.

“Law enforcement officers are committed to keeping our communities safe. They put their lives on the line every day to protect us from harm and provide security and stability.  We should support law enforcement in every way possible.  From the many conversations I have had with law enforcement across the U.S., specifically in my home state of Texas, what I have learned is that they are dealing with a massive surge in violence and crime brought on by Joe Biden’s border invasion, illegal narcotics on our streets, and criminal activity courtesy of the Mexican drug cartels,” said Hunt.

“As a legislative body, we have an obligation to protect our law enforcement officers and protect our sovereignty.  Deporting criminal aliens who attack our police officers is not only important to our nation’s security, its also important for preserving our immigration system.  We are a nation of laws, and those who break the law must face the consequences.  This bill makes it a top priority to both protect our brave law enforcement officers and punish those here illegally who seek to do harm to police,” said Hunt.
