Washington, DC – Last week, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (CA-33) announced Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) as Vice Chair on Housing and Transportation of the House Democratic Caucus Poverty Task Force for the 118th Congressional Session.
"I am honored to be appointed as Vice Chair on Housing and Transportation of the House Democratic Caucus Poverty Task Force. I am looking forward to continuing the fight to mitigate poverty in my own district in Texas and across the nation,” said Congresswoman Garcia.
“Congresswoman Garcia is deeply committed to raising the quality of life for all Texans and being a voice for her community’s most vulnerable,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. “She is a trusted leader in the Congress that always puts People Over Politics. I look forward to working closely with her to advance policies and initiatives that help reduce poverty for children and families across America.”
Congresswoman Garcia was previously Vice Chair on Urban Poverty of the Poverty Task Force in the 117th Congress. The Poverty Task Force has fought to ensure the House remains focused on combatting poverty in all forms and creating opportunity for all Americans. Originally launched in 2013 through the office of former House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, the task force will continue its mission to raise awareness among Members of Congress and the American people about the ongoing poverty crisis, the positive human and economic impacts of effective poverty alleviation programs and the need for a comprehensive national effort to eradicate poverty.
