Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), is the democratic Chief Deputy Whip for the United States House of Representatives, serving the 18th Congressional District of Texas. She is a Senior Member of the House Committees on the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and the Budget, and the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was presented this distinct honor at the National Minority Quality Forum Dinner and Spring Health Braintrust Gala with the prestigious 2023 John Lewis Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes healthcare public policy leaders who have helped to decrease health disparities and build equitable and sustainable healthy communities.
The National Minority Quality Forum established the Annual Summit on Health Disparities 21 years ago, in order to provide healthcare providers, professionals, administrators, researchers, policymakers, and community and faith-based organizations with the tools they need to deliver quality care to diverse populations.

It is essential that we continue our efforts towards ensuring that all individuals have access to quality care regardless of their race or ethnicity," said Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. It serves as a reminder to never stop the fight to achieve equitable healthcare, as John Lewis never stopped his fight for civil rights and justice."
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is an advocate for increasing access to healthcare resources among minorities and has made it her mission to ensure that everyone has access to quality care regardless of their background or identity. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, she held over 77 vaccination community vaccination site events and over 85 testing sites neighborhood outreach. She continues her work towards making sure no one gets left behind when it comes to healthcare access.
The Annual Summit on Health Disparities Summit provides a platform for discussion on how to overcome health disparities among minorities by introducing innovative technologies and strategies that have been proven successful in improving access to healthcare resources.
