WASHINGTON, DC – On July 5, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announces $6,358,150 in federal funding to Harris County for emergency protective measures.
“I am proud to announce more COVID funding to our district. The COVID state of emergency may have ended, but the effects are still felt by our community. People lost lives and suffered financial hardships due to the pandemic. This federal funding is one step forward.” said Congresswoman Garcia.
“I am grateful to the Heights Hospital, an alternate care site funded by these dollars, for stepping up and providing the necessary resources during a time of emergency. People and families were saved because of the sacrifice made by the hospital and its employees,” concluded Congresswoman Garcia.
This funding is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act. These funds will go towards contract services to conduct emergency protective measures by temporarily leasing one floor of Heights Hospital to serve as an alternate care site to isolate and provide medical care and supervision of COVID-19 positive inmates of the Harris County Sherriff’s Department.
