“I am deeply disappointed by the Supreme Court ruling that struck down affirmative action in college admissions. This is a big loss for Latinos and others who already face many challenges when trying to get into college. Affirmative action works. It opens the door of opportunity that’s often unfairly closed. This decision will take us back many years in making a good, affordable college education available to many students from districts like mine," said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia.

Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent the Texas 29th Congressional District. She is the Vice Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, the Vice Chair on Housing and Transportation of the House Democratic Caucus Poverty Task Force, and a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
