WASHINGTON, DC – On June 26, Congresswoman Garcia announces $40,402,548 to the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County’s Metro system. This funding is part of the nearly $1.7 billion in funding from the Federal Transit Administration for the 2023 Renewable Natural Gas Path to Zero Emissions Grant.
“I am thrilled to champion these federal dollars coming to Harris County to support transit and cleaner air,” said Congresswoman Garcia. “Anyone who lives in the Houston area knows that transportation infrastructure is in huge need of help. This funding will go towards a safe and reliable Metro system so that public transit can be accessible for all while focusing on cutting emissions and protecting our clean air. This is one more step towards decongesting our highways and easing the endless traffic that we’ve all faced while making our environment more sustainable.”
The Federal Transit Administration is awarding these funds through the 2023 Low or No Emission Grant Program. The nearly $1.7 billion in funding will support 130 projects in 46 states and territories that will result in approximately 1,700 buses on the nation’s streets.
