The Texas Education Agency nominated the North Houston Early College High School as a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School.
The Blue Ribbon Schools program of the U.S. Department of Education recognizes both private and public schools for their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The program has been in existence since 1982.
North Houston Early College High School is the only school in the Houston ISD campus and one of 26 sites across the entire state to be nominated for the recognition, according to a Houston ISD press release.
“North Houston Early College deserves a gold star for receiving this Blue Ribbon School nomination,” Grenita Lathan, HISD interim superintendent, said. “We are extremely proud of the work, vision and focus of the teachers, Principal Samantha Brooks, Lead Principal Alan Summers, and Area Superintendent Staci Taylor that led to this nomination.”
