The Houston Health Department is continuing to focus its COVID-19 vaccine allocation on the most vulnerable individuals.

A news release issued by the health department states, 6,391 first doses were allocated for the Area Agency on Aging, 3,850 in underserved communities and 359 for previously scheduled appointments.

The waitlist for older adults was closed for the week and no new appointments were open.

More than 11,900 second doses of the vaccine were also scheduled for the week. The department is administering the Moderna vaccine and providing second doses close to the recommended time period of 28 days after the first dose.

Individuals can learn about new appointment opportunities by registering for the HoustonRecovers subscription of AlertHouston which provides information by text message, mobile app push notification, email or voice call. The department is sending text messages and emails to people needing to schedule their second dose of the vaccine.
