Cost of college went down for all students at the University of Houston

In-state tuition and fees fell 8.2 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Houston, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $8,913 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $793 less than the $9,706 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 138.7 percent more than residents this year, or $21,273. Their price tag was reduced 3.6 percent from $22,066 in 2017-18.

About 94 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. About 2 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,611 students received grants or scholarships totaling $33.7 million and 1,834 students took out student loans totaling more than $11.7 million.

Including all undergraduates (46,324), 22,654 students used grants or scholarships totaling $165.6 million, and 14,488 students took out $96.3 million in federal student loans.
