Hampton received this recognition after winning the javelin title at the Victor Lopez Classic. His throw reached 74.19 meters in his first competition since 2024.

This performance currently leads all competitors in the American Conference and ranks seventh nationally among NCAA athletes.

The Rice Owls are scheduled to compete next at the Texas Relays this weekend. The league also recognized Elkana Kipruto from Wichita State as Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for March 31, 2026.
