The Texas Southern University (TSU) track and field teams completed a busy weekend on April 6 as they participated in both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.
These events are important opportunities for student-athletes to achieve personal bests, improve their rankings within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and prepare for upcoming competitions.
At the Texas Relays, Joshua Brown ran a career-best time of 10.37 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing ninth overall and second among SWAC competitors. Ahmad Muhammad finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 11.2 inches, which also ranks him second in SWAC standings. Braylon Carr placed eighth in the triple jump after recording a distance of 48 feet, 3.5 inches.
Meanwhile at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State University, Donovon Books achieved a career-high score of 6,173 points in the decathlon to place sixth overall. This performance moved him into the top six within SWAC rankings for pole vault (13 feet, 1.5 inches) and javelin (149 feet, 3 inches), while he now ranks second in decathlon.
On the women’s side at Texas Relays, Desirae Roberts posted her best time yet—1:00.24—in the 400-meter hurdles to rank second among SWAC athletes. At Bobcat Invitational, Cesley Williams ran a time of 54.13 seconds in the 400 meters to finish third overall and currently stands third within SWAC rankings.
Other notable performances included Car’De Moore finishing seventh in the women’s 100 meters; Demaya Malone advancing to fifth place within SWAC after clearing five feet three inches in high jump; and A’Keela McMaster achieving a personal-best score of 4,218 points—ranking third among heptathletes in SWAC.
Both TSU track and field teams are scheduled to compete next at the 44 Farms Team Invitational hosted by Texas A&M from April 9-11 at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
