Tom Oliverson, M.D., a Texas State Representative for the 130th House district, has recently posted a series of tweets criticizing aspects of medical residency programs and commenting on recent policy discussions.

On March 27, 2026, Oliverson expressed his dissatisfaction with the structure of the medical residency match system. He wrote, “The match program sucks. It’s set up to the benefit of the hospital training programs, to the detriment of the trainees. It’s all or nothing. And by nothing I mean, if you don’t match, there is no ‘second choice’. You get to pick through the leftover scraps hoping to find”.

Continuing his critique on March 28, 2026, Oliverson commented on the competitiveness of dermatology residencies: “Historically, Dermatology is one of the most competitive and hardest programs to match into. At least one person was denied entry into any dermatology residency so we could accommodate this clown. What a waste!!!”

On March 29, 2026, Oliverson referenced recent discussions at the White House regarding healthcare policies: “He talked about this when we were at the White House last week. This and a commitment to end prior auths on medications we some of the biggest highlights of the briefing for me!”

Oliverson, a Republican who was elected in 2017 to represent Texas’s 130th House district after Allen Fletcher, has been an active voice in healthcare policy debates within his state legislature.
