Tom Oliverson, M.D., a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 130th district since 2017, recently posted a series of comments on his social media account regarding drug policy and scientific research in Texas.

On April 1, 2026, Oliverson called for the removal of an unspecified product from the market, stating: “Just pull it off the market. We don’t need it. Naturally immunity and herd immunity will take it from here.”

Shortly after, he commented on scientific research practices in Texas: “I like this better. The State of Texas is much more likely to produce independent, non-conflicted science on the efficacy and safety of ibogaine than a drug manufacturer would anyway.”

In another post made minutes later, Oliverson shared a reaction without further context: “”.

Oliverson has served as state representative since replacing Allen Fletcher in 2017. He has been involved in legislative discussions around healthcare and pharmaceutical regulation as part of his role in the Texas State House.
