Texas Southern women’s golf team in fourth after first day at national championship

The Texas Southern Women’s Golf team finished the first day of the National Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship in fourth place with a total score of 618 after two rounds, according to an April 1 update from the program.

The tournament, hosted by the Women’s in Golf Foundation at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, features a 54-hole format played over two days. Teams will return for the final round on Wednesday with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.

Graduate student Alexa Gonzalez led Texas Southern individually, finishing sixth overall with a six-over-par total of 148 across both rounds. Gonzalez recorded four birdies and twenty-two pars during her play and is three shots behind the individual leader.

Freshman Carmen Pate followed closely behind with a score of 150, while junior Shawnise Gregory posted a combined score of 155. Senior Azul Amzcua and freshman Zufan Girard each scored 158, and junior Thaiz Amezcua finished two strokes back on 160.
