Texas Southern Women’s Golf finishes second at SWAC Championship, Pate earns honors

The Texas Southern University Women’s Golf Team finished in second place at the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championship on April 16. The three-day event was held at Robert Trent Jones Trail: Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama.

The team recorded a total score of 961 over three rounds. Freshman Carmen Pate led the Tigers, finishing fourth individually with a score of 234 and earning Freshman Low Medalist honors for her performance. Her final round included four birdies and nine pars.

Senior Azul Amezcua and junior Thaiz Amezcua both tied for tenth place with scores of 241. Junior Shawnise Gregory completed the tournament with a total of 245 strokes.

Prairie View A&M University won the championship with a score of 940, followed by Texas Southern University at 961 and Alabama State University at 972. Other teams competing included Jackson State University, Southern University, and Bethune-Cookman University.

This event marks the end of the regular season for Texas Southern’s women’s golf team. The Tigers will next compete in the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship from May 4 to May 6 at The Park in West Palm Beach, Florida.
