Texas Southern University swept a road doubleheader against Alcorn State on April 10, securing victories in both games on the ASU campus.
The results are significant for Texas Southern as they overcame early setbacks and delivered a standout pitching performance. The wins help build momentum for the team as they continue their season.
In the first game, Texas Southern overcame a three-run deficit to defeat Alcorn State 9-4. After two errors allowed the Braves to take an early lead, TSU responded quickly with runs from Jade McQueen and Kyle Wilson in the second inning. Karisma Garcia tied the game with an RBI single in the third. The team added four more runs in the fifth inning, aided by an error from Alcorn State. In later innings, Jordyn Talbert’s RBI triple and Wilson’s sacrifice fly secured additional runs for TSU. DaNia Durr and Talbert each had two hits while Wilson drove in two runs. Zaria Turner pitched a complete game for the win.
The second game featured a dominant pitching performance by Kylie Wilson, who threw a no-hitter as Texas Southern won 1-0. Marisa Perla started off with a walk and scored on Katelynn Cooper’s sacrifice fly after advancing on Wilson’s bunt single. Defensively, Wilson allowed only one walk, one fielding error, and one fielder’s choice; otherwise no other Alcorn State player reached base during her outing. Both Wilson and Lanay Carr collected two hits each while Wilson struck out two batters.
The series is scheduled to conclude at noon on Saturday.
