Texas Southern University softball achieved a 6-2 comeback victory against Houston Christian University on March 25, marking the team’s seventh consecutive win.

The game is notable as it represents Texas Southern’s first win over Houston Christian since 2018. Although officially a home game for Texas Southern, the matchup took place at HCU’s field.

Pitchers from both teams kept the contest scoreless until the fifth inning, when Houston Christian took a 2-0 lead after two RBI singles. Texas Southern responded in the sixth inning with Marisa Perla starting off with a bunt single and advancing to second base on a sacrifice. After Dania Durr drew a walk, Karisma Garcia hit an RBI double to bring in TSU’s first run. Lanay Carr followed with an RBI single that tied the game at two runs each and prompted HCU to change pitchers.

Pinch hitter Kiersten Salinas then delivered an RBI single to give TSU its first lead of the night. An error by HCU allowed Carr to score, making it 4-2 for TSU. Jade McQueen was hit by a pitch before Kylie Wilson added two more runs with a single, extending TSU’s advantage to four runs.

Miranda Pena closed out the game as reliever by pitching two innings and recording two strikeouts in the seventh inning to secure the win for Texas Southern. Wilson, Perla, and Carr each collected two hits during the game; Wilson also drove in two runs. Zaria Turner led TSU pitchers with six strikeouts against her former team.

Looking ahead, Texas Southern will return to Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Friday with an away series against Prairie View A&M beginning at 3 p.m.
