TSU secured a 4-2 victory over St. Thomas in a softball game held Tuesday at Memorial Park. The team overcame an early 2-0 deficit, which was the result of two errors in the third inning that allowed St. Thomas to score both runs with two outs.
The turning point came in the fourth inning when Penelope Saenz hit a solo home run over the left field fence. DaNia Durr followed with a single, and Jordyn Talbert tied the game by hitting an RBI triple to right field, scoring Durr. Katelynn Cooper then drove in Talbert for what became the go-ahead run, giving TSU a 3-2 lead.
In the sixth inning, another error by St. Thomas enabled Durr to score an insurance run, extending TSU’s lead to 4-2. Kristen Driver pitched a scoreless seventh inning to secure the save.
Cooper led TSU offensively with two hits and one RBI. Melonie Guardiola earned the win after pitching two innings of relief.
Due to weather concerns, TSU will travel to Grambling State for a doubleheader on Friday at noon, followed by a single game on Saturday.
