Texas Southern University softball lost both games of a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on March 28.

The results mark a setback for TSU, as the team dropped the first game in a close contest and fell decisively in the second. These outcomes affect their standing as they continue through the season.

In the opening game, Prairie View A&M scored twice in the fourth inning to break a tie and held off TSU for a 3-2 win. Penelope Saenz doubled home Lanay Carr in the second inning to give TSU an early lead, but PVAMU tied it up with a sacrifice fly before pulling ahead. The Tigers had opportunities late, including doubles by Carr and hits from Paris Johnson, but could not overcome PVAMU’s advantage. Pitcher Kylie Wilson took her first loss of the season after striking out two batters.

The second game saw Prairie View A&M take control early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second. Karisma Garcia hit a two-run homer for TSU to briefly narrow the gap, but PVAMU broke open the game with seven runs in the third inning and ultimately won 18-2. Miranda Pena started for TSU and suffered her first loss of the year.

TSU will return to action at home against Lamar on Tuesday at 3 p.m., looking to rebound from these losses.
