Texas Southern University’s baseball team defeated Texas A&M–Corpus Christi 16–4 on Sunday at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Tigers took control of the game with a 10-run third inning, featuring extra-base hits from Jonathan Trejo, Nate Lopez, and Byron Robinson.
Christopher Chavez began the scoring for TSU with a sacrifice fly. Nate Lopez went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in three runs, including a two-run double. Byron Robinson also had three hits and three RBI. Evan Joubert scored three times, added two hits, and collected two RBI. Marco Mueses scored four runs despite only one hit by taking advantage of opportunities on the bases.
Starting pitcher Justin Mayes earned the win for Texas Southern after pitching five innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed four runs—two earned—on four hits and five walks. Dalton Alford finished the final two innings without allowing a run and surrendered just one hit.
Texas A&M–Corpus Christi recorded five hits in total, with Noah Cassie hitting two doubles. The Islanders managed to score three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth but were kept off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. TSU pitchers limited AMCC to just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
The Tigers went 10-for-21 with runners in scoring position themselves and stole three bases during the contest. They committed only one error while leaving seven Islander runners stranded.
