The Texas Southern University Men’s Golf Team is tied for second place after the second day of play at the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championship, according to an April 13 update. The team posted a two-day total score of 590 (302 – 289) as they moved up the leaderboard during Tuesday’s round in Birmingham, Alabama.

This performance puts Texas Southern in a strong position heading into the final round. The competition is being held at Robert Trent Jones Trail: Oxmoor Valley, a par-72 championship course, and features teams from across the conference.

Sophomore Yashal Shah leads all individual players with a combined score of two-under-par 142 (70 – 72). Shah shot an even-par-72 in his second round, which included his second eagle of the tournament. He currently holds a one-stroke lead over the rest of the field. Freshman Javier Vazquez made significant progress by climbing twenty-one spots on the leaderboard to tie for sixth place individually after posting a three-under-par round of 69—the lowest single-round score so far in this tournament. Vazquez now has a total score of 147 (78 – 69).

Senior Ravepon Kosalutta and junior Bradley Lavinier also improved their standings with steady performances; Kosalutta sits tied for nineteenth at 152 (76 – 76), while Lavinier reached even par in his second round and stands at 155 (83 – 72).

In team standings, Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads with a score of 586 (287 –299). Texas Southern shares second place with Florida A&M, both at scores just behind Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Other schools competing include Alabama State University, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, Jackson State University, and Southern University.

The final round will take place Wednesday morning starting at 7:30 am and will be broadcast on SWAC TV.
