Texas Southern University defeated Alabama A&M 7–5 on April 2 to open their road baseball series at Bulldog Field in Huntsville, Alabama.

The game saw Texas Southern take an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning with Jonathan Trejo’s RBI single and Byron Robinson’s double. The Tigers extended their advantage in the third inning when Evan Joubert hit a two-run double and later scored on a Miguel Morales groundout, making it 5–0. Trejo added his third hit of the day in the fifth inning and was driven home by Morales to increase the lead to six runs.

Starting pitcher Joshua Peña improved his record to 4–1 after allowing just two earned runs over six innings and striking out five batters. Peña managed to limit damage despite bases-loaded threats from Alabama A&M, who managed two runs in the fifth through a walk and a sacrifice fly. In the sixth inning, Texas Southern added another run when Christopher Chavez reached base on an error that allowed Shaun Williams—who had tripled—to score.

Alabama A&M mounted a late comeback attempt with three runs in the ninth inning thanks to RBI hits from Brycen Hammonds and Tarris Murray. However, reliever Joshua Prieto secured his first save of the season by recording the final outs.

Trejo led Texas Southern offensively with three hits, while Robinson, Joubert, and Morales each contributed multiple RBIs. Williams also had two hits—including a triple—and stole two bases as part of Texas Southern’s total of fourteen hits for the game. For Alabama A&M, Hammonds drove in three runs while AJ Anderson scored twice.

The teams will continue their weekend series Friday.
