U.S. Senator John Cornyn has expressed approval following the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allocates $12 billion for states like Texas to recover costs incurred in border security efforts. The funding aims to reimburse Texas for expenses during what Cornyn describes as a period of federal inaction under President Biden’s administration.
“The State of Texas spent more than $11 billion taxpayer dollars to protect and defend the southern border in the Biden administration’s absence,” said Sen. Cornyn. He commended the House for including language that serves as a starting point to secure essential funding for Texas, which he claims fulfilled federal responsibilities during what he termed the “Biden border crisis.”
Cornyn emphasized his commitment to advocating for border security reimbursement in the Senate and strengthening provisions to ensure Texas is repaid for its expenditures on Operation Lone Star. He acknowledged Congressman Chip Roy and other Texas Republicans in the House for prioritizing this funding and expressed his intent to collaborate with Senate colleagues to advance the bill.
Senator Cornyn has been active in seeking federal reimbursement by supporting Governor Abbott’s request, highlighting reimbursement efforts on the Senate floor, engaging with members of Congress from Texas, and leading related legislative initiatives.
