On March 7, 2026, Team Bettencourt expressed support for a fellow legislator: “I’ve known Senator @mayes_middleton for years, and he is a real fighter against the woke left in Texas. In the Senate, he was my committee vice chair, and we worked side by side sitting together on the floor and in many #txlege committees, so I know without a doubt that he is a”.
Later that day, Team Bettencourt shared reflections from a meeting with local Republicans: “Nice to visit with West Side Republicans this morning at our PCT conventions! Spoke about how every vote matters, as the GOP in H-Town is used to running from behind, and now, for the first time since 2008, Democratic primary voters outnumber Republicans statewide. See everyone”.
On March 9, 2026, Team Bettencourt cited recent research on property tax policy: “This Houston Chronicle/@BakerInstitute report shows exactly why the #txlege passed HB 21! Housing Finance Corporations, HFCs were taking billions in multi-family property value off the tax rolls and NOT providing real relief for renters. Even worse, these “traveling” HFCs”.
Paul Bettencourt has represented Texas’s 7th Senate district since his election in 2015 as a Republican. He succeeded Dan Patrick in this position.
