Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, has been active on social media, sharing messages of gratitude and concern. Garcia, who succeeded Gene Green in 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018, used her platform to address both personal and political matters.
On May 11, 2025, Rep. Garcia expressed her appreciation for mothers across the country. In a heartfelt message on Mother’s Day, she extended her well-wishes to mothers and mother figures: “Happy #MothersDay to all the incredible moms, abuelas, and mother figures who nurture, lead, and inspire us every day. Your strength and love are the foundation of our families and communities. Thank you for everything you do—today and always.”
The following day on May 12, 2025, Garcia shared her relief regarding the return of Edan Alexander after being held hostage by Hamas for over a year. She emphasized the need for continued efforts toward peace: “Grateful to hear that Edan Alexander is finally coming home after being held hostage by Hamas for over a year. We must demand that all the hostages be released so we can end this horrific war and work toward peace in the region.”

Garcia was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston at age 72. She holds a BA from Texas Woman’s University (1972) and a JD from Texas Southern University.
