Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, has recently shared her thoughts and activities through a series of tweets. Her posts reflect on recent tragedies, legislative concerns, and community development initiatives.
On July 7, 2025, Rep. Garcia expressed her condolences regarding a tragic event in Kerr County and Central Texas. She stated, “The loss of life in Kerr County and Central Texas is an absolute tragedy. I’m praying for everyone affected, especially the Camp Mystic community mourning their campers and counselors.” She also acknowledged the efforts of first responders during this difficult time.
The following day, July 8, 2025, she visited seniors at the Magnolia Multi-Service Center to discuss federal legislative changes. In her tweet that morning she said, “This morning, I visited seniors at the Magnolia Multi-Service Center to talk about the impact of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” Rep. Garcia assured constituents that her office would assist them with navigating upcoming changes.
Later on July 8th, Rep. Garcia attended a significant community event: the groundbreaking ceremony for Selena Quintanilla Park in Denver Harbor. She shared her enthusiasm by tweeting “Proud to attend the groundbreaking of Selena Quintanilla Park in Denver Harbor!” emphasizing collective efforts towards neighborhood investment.
Sylvia Garcia has been serving in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and now residing in Houston, she holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
