Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a U.S. Congress member representing Texas’ 29th district since 2019, shared her thoughts on social media on June 20, 2025, regarding various issues including World Refugee Day and food assistance programs.
In one of her posts, Rep. Garcia tagged several organizations and individuals related to immigration advocacy: “@HouseDemocrats @HispanicCaucus @AmericasVoice @FWDus @WeAreUnidosUS @NILC @ImmDef @immcouncil @CHIRLA” (June 20, 2025).
On the same day, she highlighted the significance of World Refugee Day with a call for compassion towards refugees: “Today is World Refugee Day. Across the world, families are fleeing war and persecution, searching for safety, dignity, and freedom. In TX 29, we do not turn our backs. We open our arms. America must honor its promise to protect the vulnerable and live up to its values.” (June 20, 2025).
Later that day, Rep. Garcia criticized a legislative proposal by Republicans aimed at reducing funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): “While farms like @FincaTresRobles are out feeding our families and seniors, Republicans are pushing a Big, Ugly Bill that slashes $287 billion from SNAP. That’s unacceptable. We’re standing together to protect children, seniors, and access to the food our communities depend on.” (June 20, 2025).
