Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, representing Texas’ 29th district, has recently shared her thoughts and engagements through a series of tweets. Her posts touch on international relations, significant historical commemorations, and local community events.
On June 18, 2025, Congresswoman Garcia issued a statement regarding the Israel-Iran conflict. While the details of the statement were not included in the tweet itself, it directed followers to further information via an external link.
The following day, June 19, 2025, she acknowledged Juneteenth with a tweet emphasizing its significance. She wrote: “Today we honor #juneteenth —a powerful reminder of strength, resilience, and the ongoing fight for justice. Today and every day we must work to ensure America lives up to its promise of equality for all.” This message was shared alongside mentions of @HouseDemocrats and @TheBlackCaucus.
Later that evening on June 19, Garcia participated in an event with the Houston Maritime community. She expressed her appreciation for attending their annual dinner and celebrating maritime history by tweeting: “Great to join @HoustonMaritime for their annual dinner and the grand opening of the Houston Maritime Center & Museum! A wonderful evening celebrating our city’s rich maritime history and the people who keep it alive.”
In addition to her current role in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019, Sylvia Garcia previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and now residing in Houston at age 72, she is an alumna of Texas Woman’s University with a BA earned in 1972 as well as holding a JD from Texas Southern University.
