Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, shared her thoughts on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. Garcia, who has been in Congress since 2019 after replacing Gene Green, touched on topics ranging from financial market regulation to affordable housing and oversight of detention facilities.
On June 4, 2025, Rep. Garcia expressed concerns about financial markets, specifically highlighting the risks posed by meme coins and unstable markets to everyday investors. She criticized a legislative proposal by saying: “Meme coins and unstable markets put everyday investors at serious risk, and the Republican Calamity Crypto bill only makes it worse.” Garcia emphasized her commitment to advocating for regulations that protect consumers from financial scams and fraud.
Later that day, she reported having a productive meeting with members of the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) to discuss housing priorities. In her tweet, she stated: “Great meeting with @HARmembers to talk housing priorities and tackle the affordable housing crisis.” Garcia noted the importance of engaging directly with those affected by rising housing costs.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. Garcia invited followers to watch a press conference concerning oversight of ICE detention facilities. Her brief tweet included: ” WATCH NOW: Presser on ICE Detention Facility Oversight”. This reflects ongoing attention to immigration-related matters within her role in Congress.
Sylvia Garcia was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston. She holds a BA from Texas Woman’s University and a JD from Texas Southern University.
