Sylvia Garcia criticizes Trump-era policies and calls for accountability in recent tweets

U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who serves Texas’s 29th district in Congress, addressed concerns regarding transparency and economic issues in a series of tweets posted on April 2, 2026.

In her first post, Garcia referenced ongoing controversies surrounding Pam Bondi and the handling of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. She wrote on April 2: “We won’t forget Pam Bondi’s delay on the Epstein files. Survivors have waited long enough. This pattern of Trump cover-ups has to end. The American people deserve transparency and accountability. A change in leadership is not enough, we still need answers and we need them NOW.”

Later that day, Garcia shifted focus to household financial burdens attributed to tariff policies under former President Donald Trump. She stated on April 2: “$1,000… That’s how much on average households are paying more for the same products over the past year. Trump promised tariffs would lower costs and bring jobs back. Instead, they’ve become a hidden tax, with working families paying the price.”

In a subsequent tweet posted at the same time, Garcia questioned whether Americans were seeing cost relief since what she referred to as “Liberation Day.” She commented: “One year from Liberation Day, are you actually paying less? Instead of making real deals with our allies to lower costs, Trump drove up prices for working American families. Here is what really happened this past year “

Garcia has served in Congress representing Texas’s 29th District since 2019 after replacing Gene Green. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. In recent election cycles, Garcia has consistently secured significant victories against her opponents; most recently in 2024 she defeated Alan Garza by a margin of over thirty percentage points.

Her comments reflect ongoing debates within U.S. politics about government transparency concerning high-profile legal cases and the economic impact of trade policies enacted during previous administrations.
