U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who represents Texas’s 29th district in Congress, has publicly criticized recent redistricting efforts in Texas through a series of posts on her social media account. Garcia alleges that the process lacks transparency and is being influenced by national political figures.

On July 24, 2025, Garcia posted: “I’m in Austin calling out Trump and Abbott’s sham redistricting scheme. There’s no map. No plan. Just a backroom power grab—all to bend the knee to the Felon in the White House. Trying to rip apart TX-29 to rig the next election is shameful and we will meet the moment. We will”.

Later that day, she shared another post containing only links: “https://t.co/U8K5WCLZyz https://t.co/iU2pgTIDxt” (July 24, 2025).

On July 25, 2025, Garcia wrote about her participation at a legislative hearing: “I testified today at the first Texas Senate redistricting hearing. They’re holding hearings without maps because this isn’t about fairness, it’s about power. Texans didn’t ask for this. Trump did. And our governor is letting a con man from New York dictate what happens in”.

Redistricting remains a contentious issue in Texas politics as lawmakers consider changes that could affect congressional representation ahead of upcoming elections.

Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th district since replacing Gene Green in Congress in 2019 and previously served as a member of the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. She was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston at age 72. Her educational background includes degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
