U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who has represented Texas’s 29th district in Congress since 2019, posted a series of tweets on July 23, 2025, addressing legislative traditions and raising concerns about redistricting efforts in Texas.
In one tweet, Garcia criticized former President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement in the state’s redistricting process ahead of the 2026 election. On July 23, she wrote: “Trump is forcing a mid-decade redistricting in Texas to rig the 2026 election because his agenda is losing and he knows it. These maps aren’t coming from Austin. They’re being drawn in secret by the Felon in the White House.”
On the same day, Garcia referenced colleagues and Democratic caucus groups in another post: @HouseDemocrats @HouseDPCC @RepVeasey @RepFletcher @RepJulieJohnson @RepGonzalez @RepTerriSewell @WhipKClark @RepNikema @RepLloydDoggett @RepJasmine.
Later that evening, Garcia highlighted a Capitol tradition by tweeting: “Wrapping up the session before August recess in seersucker—because tradition, style, and a little Southern flair never go out of fashion. @RepFrenchHill @RepDeborahRoss @repcleaver @rep_stevewomack”.
Garcia has served as a member of Congress for Texas’s 29th District since 2019 after replacing Gene Green. She previously held office in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas, Garcia is currently based in Houston and holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
