U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who serves Texas’ 29th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on May 12, 2026, addressing issues ranging from inflation and immigration detention to political commentary about former President Donald Trump.
In a tweet posted at 16:18 UTC, Garcia stated: ” Inflation is up 3.8%, and working Americans are paying the price for Trump’s Iran war every single day. Families feel it at the grocery store, at the gas pump, and when paying utility bills every month. Trump is driving up costs and putting more strain on working families.”
Later that day at 18:13 UTC, she addressed conditions at an immigration detention facility: “What is happening inside Dilley is unacceptable. Detainees are being denied basic medical care because “ICE didn’t approve it,” even for serious conditions like gallstones, left to suffer in severe pain with only Tylenol. No one should be treated this way. We must shut Dilley”
At 19:44 UTC, Garcia commented further on former President Trump’s recent statements: “Trump is finally saying the quiet part out loud.”
Sylvia Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. She has consistently won her seat by wide margins, including victories over Alan Garza in 2024 (65.3% to 34.7%), Robert Schafranek in 2022 (71.4% to 28.5%), Jaimy Blanco in 2020 (71.1% to 27.4%), and Phillip Aronoff in 2018 (75.1% to 23.9%).
