U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, a Democrat from Texas, posted a series of messages on her social media account in early August 2025 addressing gun violence and political actions by Texas House Democrats.
On August 3, 2025, Garcia reflected on the anniversary of the El Paso shooting with a call to action. She wrote, “Today, we remember the 23 lives lost in the El Paso shooting. Family members and friends, taken too soon by an act of hate and violence.
We will never forget the victims. Now is the time to come together to end gun violence, end hate, and protect our communities. #ElPasoStrong https://t.co/uKkTWzARWr“.
Later that day on August 4, Garcia commented on recent actions by state legislators: “Texas House Democrats are refusing to let Donald Trump dictate what happens in our state. Standing up for democracy takes courage and they are real patriots. #txlege https://t.co/JkFEkF8Gim”.
She also acknowledged several colleagues and organizations involved in these efforts in another post that same day: @HouseDemocrats @HouseDPCC

She continued her electoral success in subsequent cycles: defeating Jaimy Blanco in 2020 with more than 71%, Robert Schafranek in 2022 with more than 71%, and Alan Garza in 2024 with over 65% of votes cast.
