U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who represents Texas’s 29th district in Congress, announced her participation in an upcoming public hearing on redistricting and criticized House Republicans for adjourning early to avoid a vote related to the release of Epstein files.

On July 22, 2025, Garcia posted that she would be present at a scheduled public hearing regarding changes to Texas’s congressional map. In her tweet, she stated: “I’ll be attending Saturday’s public hearing on redistricting to Texas’s congressional map. July 26 | 11 AM University of Houston – Student Center, Houston Room (Room 220) The public is welcome to attend and speak on the record.” This event will take place at the University of Houston and is open for public comment.

Later the same day, Garcia tagged several media outlets and Democratic caucus accounts in another post: @MSNBC @weeknightmsnbc @MichaelSteele @AliciaMenendez @SymoneDSanders @HouseDemocrats @HouseDPCC. No additional commentary was provided in this tweet.

In a subsequent statement posted on July 22, Garcia criticized House Republicans for their decision to recess until September. She wrote: “House Republicans are shutting down the House early until September to dodge a vote forcing the Trump administration to release the Epstein files. Trump promised transparency, but now he’s protecting the powerful and running from the truth. One must ask—what are they hiding?”

Sylvia Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District since 2019 after succeeding Gene Green. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently residing in Houston, Garcia holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
