U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who serves Texas’s 29th District in Congress, issued a series of public statements on February 2 and 3, 2026, addressing voter registration deadlines, law enforcement accountability, and the swearing-in of a new congressional colleague.
On February 2, Garcia reminded constituents about the approaching deadline for voter registration ahead of the March 3 midterm election. She wrote: ” Voter Registration Reminder The deadline to register to vote in the March 3 midterm election is TODAY, February 2. If you’ve moved, changed your name, or haven’t voted in a while, make sure your voter registration is up to date. District lines have changed due to https://t.co/gZmEmlpzN7″.
Later that day, Garcia commented on federal law enforcement practices under Speaker Johnson’s leadership. She stated: “Sounds like Speaker Johnson is ok with masked federal agents operating in our communities. Masking is a hallmark of police states, not democracies. If we can’t identify who’s using force, we don’t have accountability. That’s exactly what we’re seeing now. It needs to end now.”
On February 3, Garcia marked the return of representation for Texas’s 18th Congressional District after nearly ten months without an elected official by expressing support for her colleague: “After 300 days without representation, TX-18 finally has a voice. I’m proud to stand with my friend @CDMenefee as he’s sworn in, and I’m excited to work alongside my new colleague for Houstonians!”
Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District since replacing Gene Green in Congress in 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. In recent elections she has consistently secured victories over her opponents—defeating Alan Garza in the general election of 2024 with over sixty-five percent of the vote.
