U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia, who serves Texas’ 29th district in Congress, recently highlighted several issues on her social media accounts, including the legacy of New Deal-era policies, gender pay inequality, and the achievements of women leaders in Houston.
On March 25, 2026, Garcia expressed appreciation for a tour of a federal building and commented on its historical significance: “Grateful to @RepLloydDoggett for the tour of the Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building. This building is a symbol of the New Deal and the promise of government working for the people. At a time when the Trump administration is pushing to tear down that legacy, it’s more important https://t.co/qTyrheNrvu”.
The following day, March 26, Garcia addressed wage disparities faced by women in the workplace: “Women are underpaid and undervalued. This year, the gender pay gap has widened—again. On #EqualPayDay and every day, my @DemWomenCaucus colleagues and I will continue to fight for fair wages, opportunity, and equality for all women in the workplace. https://t.co/vZSuPKo4zM”.
Later that same day during Women’s History Month, Garcia recognized local female leaders: “This #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating the women of Houston who are leading, breaking barriers, and paving the way for the next generation. The future is brighter because of them. @CarolforTexas @RepMorales145 @salinasforhtx @HarrisCoJudge @LesleyBrionesTX https://t.co/wgOf0g4Liu”.
Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District since 2019 after succeeding Gene Green. Before her tenure in Congress began in 2019,Sylvia Garcia served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. She has consistently secured re-election victories over multiple cycles: defeating Alan Garza with 65.3% of votes in 2024; Robert Schafranek with 71.4% in 2022; Jaimy Blanco with 71.1% in 2020; and Phillip Aronoff with 75.1% in 2018.
