Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’ 29th district, recently shared her perspectives and activities through a series of tweets. Serving in Congress since 2019 after replacing Gene Green, Garcia has been active on issues concerning immigration and education.
On May 9, 2025, Rep. Sylvia Garcia expressed her concerns about the impact of policies under the Trump administration on families across the United States. She stated: “What’s happening to families around the country under the Trump administration isn’t just cruel, it’s a test of who we are as a country. I came to Mexico to stand with immigrant families facing the consequences of a broken system and to make clear that due process isn’t optional.”
Later that day, she highlighted her involvement in educational initiatives by joining Team Garcia at Burbank Middle School alongside Houston Independent School District (HISD) for Teacher Appreciation Week. She acknowledged Mr. Willford E. Glenn’s contributions: “Team Garcia joined @HoustonISD at Burbank MS to celebrate #TeacherAppreciationWeek! We were proud to recognize Mr. Willford E. Glenn for his incredible work and lasting contributions to his students.”
Additionally, Rep. Garcia participated in an effort with nearly 50 House Democrats defending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans before the Supreme Court. She remarked: “I was proud to join @RepDWStweets and nearly 50 @HouseDemocrats on an amicus brief defending #TPS for Venezuelans at the Supreme Court.” Her statement emphasized the humanitarian implications of potentially removing these protections.
Garcia’s legislative career is marked by her commitment to various social issues both locally and nationally.
