There were 291 American Indian students enrolled in Alief ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.4% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Alief ISD schools welcomed 40,329 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.7% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Alief ISD roughly covers schools within Harris County and has a main office in Houston.

Among the 47 schools in Alief ISD schools, Hastings High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 39 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
