There were 48 Asian students enrolled in Step Charter School District in the 2022-23 school year, 18.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Step Charter School District welcomed 569 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Asian students comprised 8.4% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Step Charter School District roughly covers schools within Harris County and has a main office in Houston.

Among the two schools in Step Charter School District, Step Charter Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of Asian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 46 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
