There were 349 African American students enrolled in The Varnett Public School District in the 2022-23 school year, 9.8% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that The Varnett Public School District welcomed 1,085 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 32.2% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

The Varnett Public School District roughly covers schools within Harris County and has a main office in Houston.

Among the three schools in The Varnett Public School District, Varnett Charter School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 227 students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
