There were 134 students enrolled in The Lawson Academy in the 2022-23 school year, 20.7% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.2% of them were boys, and 47.8% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were African American, representing 93.3% of the The Lawson Academy total enrollment.

The Lawson Academy roughly covers schools within Harris County with its main office in Houston.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
