There were 1,527 students enrolled in Southwest School in the 2021-22 school year, 10.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.1% of them were boys, and 47.9% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 88.4% of the Southwest School total enrollment.

Southwest School roughly covers schools within Harris County with its main office in Houston.

Among the five schools in Southwest School, Southwest Schools Bissonnet Elementary Campus recorded the highest enrollment of 437 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
