There were 217 students enrolled in Excel Academy in the 2021-22 school year, 5.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 88% of them were boys, and 12% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were African American, representing 51.6% of the Excel Academy total enrollment.

Excel Academy roughly covers schools within Harris County with its main office in Houston.

Among the four schools in Excel Academy, Harris County Juvenile Detention Center recorded the highest enrollment of 113 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
