WASHINGTON, DC - On July 18, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia responds to Governor Abbott's inhumane border policies.

"This is barbaric and inhumane - Governor Abbott's heartless anti-immigrant policies prey on vulnerable children seeking asylum in the United States. These extreme MAGA Republicans are following Trump’s extreme anti-immigrant agenda by putting the lives of migrant children at risk. I call on the Department of Justice to investigate these cruel actions toward migrants. Razor wire-wrapped barrels in the river, pushing children back into the river, and denying water during extreme heat would be acts of deliberate, horrific torture. It would be beyond politics and cross a line into human rights violations.

This Texas so-called border policy is a xenophobic and racist attempt to make it harder for migrants to legally seek asylum in the United States. Governor Abbott's actions do not reflect our values as Texans. We can't stand by as this happens. Migrants deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion, not by this relentless dehumanization," said Congresswoman Garcia.
